Queen Elizabeth National Park is the most popular park in Uganda according to the number of travelers visiting each year. It was named after the queen of England, Queen Elizabeth II, after her visit to the park in 1952. The park has the most diverse habitats making it a home to numerous bird species life, animal, insect, reptiles and amphibians and mammals.
It is famous for its tree-climbing lions in the Ishasha sector, crater lakes, forested gorges that are home to chimpanzees, Savannah plains, swamps, rivers, and the beautiful Kazinga channel – home to an abundance of wildlife. The park has the highest number of bird species in Uganda and any protected area in East Africa. There is Chimpanzee tracking in the ‘underground’ forest in Kyambura gorge and the nearby Kalinzu forest.
